The Cynon Valley Collection is borne out of the material culture of the Cynon Valley, within this there are a number of strong themes which are represented, including the mining and industrial history of the valley, local celebrities and sports personalities, eisteddfod memorabilia, domestic items and kitchenalia, fashion and costumes and religion.

Mae Amgueddfa Cwm Cynon yn amgueddfa sydd wedi’i hachredu’n llawn dan Gynllun Achredu Cyngor y Celfyddydau; mae’r amgueddfa wedi’i hachredu ers 2006. Ers 2014, mae Cyngor Rhondda Cynon Taf wedi rheoli a bod yn berchen ar gasgliad yr amgueddfa. Mae’r amgueddfa’n adrodd hanes Cwm Cynon o’r oes gynhanesyddol hyd at heddiw ac yn casglu gwrthrychau sy’n adlewyrchu hyn. Mae’r mwyafrif o’r casgliadau’n deillio o’r cyfnod rhwng 1800 a 2000.
Cenhadaeth yr amgueddfa yw ‘hyrwyddo addysg y gymuned leol a thu hwnt mewn perthynas â hanes lleol, treftadaeth ddiwylliannol a chelfyddydau Cwm Cynon.’
Mae Casgliad Cwm Cynon yn deillio o ddiwylliant materol Cwm Cynon. Yn rhan o hyn, mae sawl thema amlwg yn cael eu cynrychioli, gan gynnwys hanes mwyngloddio a diwydiannol y cwm, enwogion a sêr o’r byd chwaraeon o’r ardal leol, pethau cofiadwy o eisteddfodau, eitemau yn ymwneud â’r cartref a’r gegin, ffasiwn a gwisgoedd a chrefydd.
Bydd Gwasanaeth Treftadaeth Cyngor Rhondda Cynon Taf yn derbyn rhoddion i Amgueddfa Cwm Cynon os oes:
- cysylltiad amlwg ac uniongyrchol â Chwm Cynon neu ei bobl
- gwerth cymdeithasol, gwyddonol neu academaidd digonol er mwyn cyfiawnhau cadw a diogelu’r fath eitemau’n barhaol
- modd i’r Gwasanaeth Treftadaeth ddarparu gofal digonol, parhaus yn y tymor hir ar gyfer yr eitemau a mynediad y cyhoedd atyn nhw, heb effeithio ar safon y gofal a mynediad yn ymwneud â’r casgliadau presennol
Fydd Gwasanaeth Treftadaeth Cyngor Rhondda Cynon Taf ddim yn derbyn rhoddion i Amgueddfa Cwm Cynon am sawl rheswm, er enghraifft:
- does dim gwerth cymdeithasol, gwyddonol, neu academaidd digonol er mwyn cyfiawnhau arddangos yr eitemau yn y dyfodol
- does dim lle digonol yn y storfa er mwyn gofalu am yr eitemau pan nad ydyn nhw’n cael eu harddangos
- mae risg amlwg i iechyd a diogelwch
- mae eitemau tebyg yn y casgliad yn barod
- does dim adnoddau nac arbenigedd digonol i ofalu a rheoli’r eitemau.
Mae pwyslais ar gasglu cyfoes i sicrhau bod themâu presennol yn parhau i gael eu cynrychioli yn y casgliad, gan ganiatáu i’r Amgueddfa adrodd hanes mwy cynhwysfawr am Gwm Cynon. Mae gan yr amgueddfa ddiddordeb hefyd mewn gwrthrychau cyfoes sy’n ymwneud â chymunedau LHDTC+, lleiafrifoedd ethnig, hanes menywod a phandemig COVID-19.
