Cynon Valley Museum is a local history museum and gallery space nestled in the north of the Cynon Valley, in the town of Aberdare.

The Museum is managed by the Cynon Valley Museum Trust (registered charity number 1161227).

Visiting the museum is free. Learn about the fascinating stories of the Cynon Valley and the people who have lived here throughout history in our permanent displays.

There are two gallery spaces, the Lower Gallery and the Mezzanine Gallery,  with a regular programme of exhibitions featuring local artists, community groups and special local stories. Why not visit the Museum shop and discover the amazing array of beautiful local crafts we have on sale? Cynon Valley Collection

The Cynon Valley Museum is home to the Cynon Valley Collection. The collection is where over 20,000 objects, documents and photographs are kept to preserve the history of the Cynon Valley.

Each object in the collection has a story to tell, ‘Stories from the Collection’ takes a look at the objects which make up our collection, shining a light on the individual stories which makes up the history of the Cynon Valley.

The Cynon Valley Museum was saved by the people of the Cynon Valley. Today we are museum run by the community, for the community. To ensure we are here for you and future generations of the Cynon Valley we need your support.

Exhibitions at the Museum

The Cynon Valley Museum is proud to work with local art societies, schools, colleges, artists, artisans and craft people to create an exhibition programme which puts the work of the Cynon Valley on the national stage

We host a programme of temporary art exhibitions across our two temporary gallery spaces, the Mezzanine Gallery and Oriel Space and online at Exhibition at Home.
