Cynon Valley Museum Extends Its Opening Hours

Cynon Valley Museum Trust is pleased to announce that the museum will be extending its opening hours to include Tuesdays. This is another important step in the museum’s reopening phase since the closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After the outbreak of Covid-19, the museum was open to the public for a total of three weeks in 2020. During the closure, the museum was supported by National Lottery Heritage Fund, Welsh Government’s Museums Archives and Library Division, Moondance Foundation and Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund, and Rhondda Cynon Taf CBC, who provided essential funding to assist and support the museum, and to enable the museum to invest in essential equipment and PPE so that it could reopen to the public.

Since our reopening in July 2021, the museum has slowly increased its opening hours from Thursday – Saturday and then Wednesday – Saturday, as well as reintroducing our room hire service and exhibiting artists in our Mezzanine Gallery. Unfortunately, the museum’s café will not be reopening at this time. The Museum’s Board of Trustees is currently making plans for the next steps for the cafe and will be making further announcements in relation to the future of the cafe in due course.

From October 19th 2021, Cynon Valley Museum will be open from Tuesday – Saturday, from an earlier time of 10am, until 3pm.  Increasing opening hours to include Tuesday is another crucial moment in the museum’s development and efforts to get back to our position before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The museum would not be in this position without the volunteers, visitors, exhibiting artists, and community groups that have supported and engaged with us since our reopening in July 2021.
