Miners’ Portraits

by Aberdare Town Church Primary School, Year 3

Please enjoy this digital exhibition of charcoal portraits of Miners, created by Aberdare Town Church Primary School. These portraits are currently on display at the museum until December 24th.
The Year 3 class teacher Mrs. A Reynolds explains
‘We’ve been studying South wales coal mining as part of our topic work ‘Belonging’ under the umbrella of ‘Cynefin’.
Every class has been doing a rich task and this was part of our Year 3 rich task.  We have studied the lives of miners in the area and looked at terraced houses. This artwork was inspired by the images they have seen online and by a visit from an ex-local miner ‘Dick the Coal.’
