Islwyn Thorne: Portraits of Aberdare

Islwyn Thorne is a local artist who has spent his life drawing many different individuals and groups he has encountered across the pubs in Aberdare.

Describing the exhibition, he explains:

‘These are drawings made over several years in various pubs in Aberdare, mainly the Conway and Marquis.

With an ink pen and (judiciously folded on my knee below the table) paper I tried to capture what was in front of me.

Most were not aware that they were being drawn – often listening to music or to each other. And I thank them now!’
