Outdoors Indoors celebrates Wales a “country opulent in dramatic backgrounds, glorious seascapes and beautiful countryside that demonstrates an extensive diversity covering forests, castles, rivers, caves and shores”. But what do you do when for no fault of your own, cannot access the beauty of Wales?
Outdoors Indoors by Disability Arts Cymru (DAC) through the inaugural DAC Arts Prize asks this question. “How can you be truly part of this amazing offer? Are there alternative ways of engaging and experiencing such wonderful vistas and experiences? Indeed, how can you be a part of the ‘Outdoors’ when you are mostly ‘Indoors’?”
In total over 60 artists submitted to be part of this ground breaking arts prize, the intention being that the selected works would tour 4 Welsh art galleries including the Cynon Valley Museum intended to host the a touring exhibition curated by a panel formed of the 4 galleries and three international artists Flan Flaherty, Dawn Joy Leong and Brandon Cordrey. More information about the judges can be found here. However with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic the the touring exhibition was forced to be postponed. None the less, the selection panel went ahead selecting 15 artists, awarding the inaugural DAC Art Prize to photographer Roy Barr and highly commended to Dave Peacock and Gail Howard and Sophie Millien.
