Bi Visibility Week at Cynon Valley Museum

Join Project Unity and Cynon Valley Museum for a panel discussion on the 25th September at 3pm for Bi Visability Week with guest speakers Rania Vamvaka, Vaneet Mehta, panel chair Dan Vo, Ele Hicks and Fennec.

Bi Visibility week is an important date in the LGBTQIA calendar and annual fixture of celebration in September and centres from Bi Visibility Day which is held annually on September 23rd.

The celebration was established in 1999 to promote cultural acceptance of people who identify as bisexual and create a platform to advocate for advocating for Bisexual rights

Speakers

Rania Vamvaka

I am Rania (she/her) and I identify as bisexual. I grew up in Athens in a Turko-Egyptian family. I came to the UK in 2011; I joined Glitter Cymru in 2016. I am Glitter’s Educational Officer/Committee Member. Currently, I am an ESRC-funded Doctoral Researcher in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University; my research focuses on queer asylum in Wales. In my spare time, I like being outdoors – hiking or travelling.

Vaneet Mehta

My name is Vaneet Mehta, pronouns He/Him, and I am an Indian bisexual man born and raised in Southall, West London. I work as a Software Engineer, but in my spare time I work within the LGBTQ+ community. I volunteer for Rainbow Films and Middlesex Pride and co-founded The AmBIssadors, a bisexual YouTube channel. I am also an avid writer, having been featured in GMFA, Metro UK, Unicorn Magazine and The Bi-ble Volume 2, a bisexual anthology. I created the #BisexualMenExist hashtag and am currently writing a book on bisexual men.

Dan Vo

Dan Vo is the project manager for the Queer Heritage and Collections Network. He developed LGBTQ+ Tours for the V&A Museum, University of Cambridge Museums and Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Caerdydd National Museum Cardiff.

Ele Hicks

Ele founded Bi Cymru in 2007 and local Bi Swansea and Bi Cardiff groups in 2009. She has been a Bi activist since 2004 and is involved in the UK Bi activists and bi communities, as well as running the bi groups in Wales.

Fennec

Fennec (they/them) is a counsellor, artist, youthworker, in addition to their role with Project Unity. They identify as queer more specifically genderqueer, bisexual and disabled.
