The museum is family friendly, and suitable for all ages.

We have a lovely family-friendly cafe, which serves light lunches, hot drinks, cakes, and cooked breakfasts.

Summer Holiday Fun

River Cynon Investigation

Thursday 8th & Saturday 10th August

Drop in on these days between 10am & 2pm to find out what lives in your local river & make your own dragonfly to take home!

These events are organised by the South East Wales Rivers Trust.

Design Your Own Victorian Park!

Saturday 20th July to Saturday 31st August – Suitable for all ages!

Drop-in during the summer & have a go at designing your very own park! It’s 150 years since Aberdare Park first opened… find out more about the history of the park, what life was like in Victorian times & create some colourful designs.

Down to the Sea (for age 8+)

Follow the trail to discover how the ocean has impacted people’s lives in the Cynon Valley throughout history!

Museum Detectives (for under 5s)

See if you can spot 6 objects in the museum!

Bryn the Owl Trail (for ages 8+)

Search the museum to find out how life has changed in the Cynon Valley over time!

Young Archaeologists' Club

Our Young Archaeologists’ Club runs on the 4th Saturday of each month from 2-4pm. It’s open to anyone aged 8-16 at a cost of £3 per session.

October 26th – Museum in a Box

November 22nd – Conflict Archaeology

December 21st – Traditional Christmas Celebrations and Party
